Convert, compress and encode images
Every image format is a trade-off between quality, file size, transparency and compatibility. These tools let you move between formats, shrink files for the web and email, and turn images into code-friendly Base64. Most conversions run entirely in your browser, so photos stay on your device.
Which format should I use?
| Format | Strengths | Weaknesses | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Small photos, universal support | No transparency, lossy | Photos, email, uploads |
| PNG | Lossless, transparency, sharp text | Large for photos | Screenshots, logos, graphics |
| WebP | 25–35% smaller than JPG, transparency | Some older software can't open it | Websites |
| HEIC | ~50% smaller than JPG | Poor support outside Apple | iPhone photo storage |
| SVG | Infinitely scalable, tiny for simple art | Not for photos | Logos, icons, illustrations |

Image optimization checklist for websites
- Resize to the largest size actually displayed (often 1200–1920 px wide).
- Use WebP (or AVIF) for photos.
- Compress to 75–85% quality.
- Set width and height on
<img>tags to prevent layout shift. - Lazy-load images below the fold with
loading="lazy".
Optimized images improve Core Web Vitals, especially Largest Contentful Paint, which influences search rankings and conversions.
Privacy
Conversions use your browser's built-in image engine (Canvas and createImageBitmap), plus open-source libraries for HEIC decoding and vector tracing. Only Word↔JPG and JPG→HEIC use our server, and those files are deleted immediately after conversion. Re-encoding also strips EXIF metadata such as GPS location, which is a nice privacy bonus when sharing photos.
