Raising your CGPA

Credit hours matter. A strong grade in a 4-credit course lifts your CGPA more than the same grade in a 1-credit lab, and each new semester moves the average less as your total credits grow. Retaking a failed course, if your university replaces the old grade, can make a big difference.

Frequently asked questions

How is GPA calculated?

Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add them up, and divide by the total credit hours. For example, an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course and a B (3.0) in a 4-credit course give (12 + 12) ÷ 7 = 3.43.

What's the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA usually means one semester's average. CGPA (cumulative GPA) is the average across all semesters so far, weighted by credit hours.

How do I calculate my new CGPA?

Open 'Add previous semesters', enter your current CGPA and the credit hours you've completed, then enter this semester's courses. The tool combines them, weighting by credit hours.

Is a 3.0 GPA good?

A 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is a B average. Many scholarships and graduate programmes ask for 3.0 or above; competitive ones often expect 3.5 or more.

Does my university use the same grade points?

Most universities follow one of these scales, but some use slightly different points for grades such as A− or B+. Check your handbook and pick the closest scale.

Are these student tools free?

Yes, every tool is free with no sign-up or app to install, and they work on phones as well as computers.

Is my data saved?

Your courses, marks, timer settings and reference list are saved only in your own browser, so you can come back and update them. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Which grading systems are supported?

The GPA calculator supports the US 4.0 and 4.3 scales, the Pakistani HEC-style 4.0 scale and the Indian 10-point scale. The CGPA to percentage converter includes the CBSE and VTU formulas and the common 10-point and 4.0-scale conversions.

Will my university use exactly the same formula?

Not always. Grading and conversion rules differ between universities and boards, so check your student handbook for official results.
