Frequently asked questions

What is AVIF?

AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. It makes very small files with excellent quality, so many websites now serve AVIF images.

Why can't I open an AVIF file?

Older versions of Windows, Photoshop, Office and many apps don't support AVIF yet. Converting to JPG makes it open anywhere.

My browser says it can't read the file. Why?

Conversion uses your browser's built-in AVIF decoder. Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (16.4+) support AVIF; update your browser if it doesn't work.

What happens to transparency?

JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent areas become white. Use AVIF to PNG to keep them.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
