Convert JPG to HEIC to save space

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) uses modern HEVC compression to store photos at roughly half the size of an equivalent JPG. Apple adopted it as the default iPhone photo format for exactly that reason. If you're archiving a large collection of photos for Apple devices, converting JPGs to HEIC can noticeably reduce storage use.

When HEIC makes sense

  • Archiving photos you'll view mainly on iPhone, iPad or Mac.
  • Saving iCloud storage for large collections.
  • Matching an Apple-centric workflow where everything else is already HEIC.

Quality settings

  • 80% (default): good balance; visually close to the original at much smaller size.
  • 90%: for photos you might print or edit.
  • 60–70%: maximum savings for casual snapshots.

Privacy and processing

Browsers don't include an HEIC encoder, so this conversion runs on our server using the open-source libheif library. Uploaded files are written to an isolated temporary folder, converted, returned to you and deleted immediately. They're never stored, viewed or shared.

Need to open HEIC files elsewhere? Use HEIC to JPG, which runs entirely in your browser. For web-friendly compression, try JPG to WebP.

How to use the JPG to HEIC

  1. Drag and drop your files into the upload area, or click Choose files.
  2. Set any options, such as quality, page size or page ranges.
  3. Click the convert button. The file is processed securely on our server.
  4. Download each result individually, or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert JPG to HEIC?

To save storage. HEIC typically stores photos at around half the size of JPG with similar visual quality, which helps when archiving large photo libraries for Apple devices.

Will HEIC files open everywhere?

No. HEIC opens natively on Apple devices and recent Android phones, but Windows needs extensions and many websites don't accept it. Keep JPG copies for sharing.

Why is this tool processed on the server?

Browsers can't encode HEIC (HEVC) images, so the image is converted on our server. Files are processed in an isolated temporary folder and deleted immediately afterwards.

Does converting improve quality?

No. Converting can't add detail that the JPG lacks; it only stores the image more efficiently.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
