Why it matters

Sharing personal data carelessly can break privacy laws such as the EU's GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, and exposes people to fraud. Masking data before sharing is a simple habit that prevents most leaks.

Frequently asked questions

What is redaction?

Hiding sensitive details in a document or text before sharing it, so others can see the content without seeing private information.

How are card numbers detected?

Numbers of 13 to 19 digits are masked only if they pass the Luhn checksum used by real card numbers, so order numbers and other long numbers aren't hidden by mistake.

Does it catch everything?

No pattern-based tool can. It handles the common formats of the data types listed, but not names, street addresses or unusual formats. Always read the result before sharing.

Why keep the last few digits?

Showing the last digits (like **** 1111) lets people recognise which card or number is meant without revealing it.

Are my passwords and files sent to your servers?

No. All checks, hashing and encryption run in your browser using its built-in Web Crypto features. The only network request is the optional breach check, which sends just the first 5 characters of your password's SHA-1 hash, never the password.

Can I trust browser-based security tools?

These tools use the same standard algorithms (AES-GCM, PBKDF2, SHA-2, HMAC) built into your browser. Still, never type the passwords or 2FA secrets of important accounts into any website you don't control.

Do the tools work offline?

Yes. Once a page has loaded, everything except the breach check works without a connection.
