Measure how engaged an audience is

Follower counts don't tell the whole story. Engagement rate shows how many people actually interact with posts, which is why brands and agencies use it to choose creators.

Engagement rate formula

Engagement rate = (Likes + Comments + Shares + Saves) ÷ Posts ÷ Followers × 100

Example

10,000 followers, one post with 450 likes, 30 comments, 10 shares and 20 saves:

(450 + 30 + 10 + 20) ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 5.1%

How to improve engagement

  • Ask a question or invite opinions in your caption.
  • Reply to comments quickly; conversation boosts reach.
  • Post consistently at times your audience is online.
  • Use carousels and short videos, which often get more interaction.

Frequently asked questions

How is engagement rate calculated?

Engagement rate = (likes + comments + shares + saves) ÷ followers × 100, averaged over the posts you include. For example, 500 interactions on one post from 10,000 followers is 5%.

What is a good engagement rate?

Many marketers treat 1–3% as average and anything above that as good, but it depends on the platform and account size. Smaller accounts usually have higher rates than very large ones.

Should I use followers or reach?

Followers is the standard public measure and lets you compare accounts. If you can see reach in your own insights, engagement ÷ reach shows how engaging a post was for the people who actually saw it.

Why do brands check engagement rate?

It shows how active an audience really is, which matters more for sponsorships than follower count alone, and can reveal fake or inactive followers.

Do I need to log in to my social accounts?

No. None of these tools connect to your accounts or ask for passwords. They work on the text and numbers you enter, in your browser.

Are the platform limits up to date?

They reflect each platform's published limits as of 2026. Platforms change their rules from time to time, so check the platform if a post is rejected.

Is anything I type saved?

No. Only small conveniences, such as your recently used emoji, are remembered in your own browser.
