Writing a great title

  1. Lead with the main keyword or topic.
  2. Make it specific. "Sourdough Bread Recipe for Beginners" beats "Recipes".
  3. Add your brand at the end if there's room: "… | Example Bakery".
  4. Keep it unique across your site.

Writing a great description

  • Summarize the page's value in one or two sentences.
  • Include the main keyword naturally; Google bolds matching words.
  • Add a reason to click: a benefit, a number or a call to action.

When to use noindex

Use noindex for pages that shouldn't appear in search results: thank-you pages, internal search results, thin tag archives and staging copies. Don't block those pages in robots.txt as well, or Google can't see the noindex tag.

Check a live page with the Meta Tag Checker, or count characters with the Character Counter.

How to use the Meta Tag Generator

  1. Fill in the fields or choose a template.
  2. Watch the output and previews update as you type.
  3. Copy the generated code or download the file.
  4. Add it to your website, then verify it with the matching checker or tester.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I put meta tags?

Inside the <head> section of your HTML, before </head>. In WordPress, an SEO plugin usually manages them; in frameworks like Next.js, use the framework's metadata API.

Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?

X (Twitter) falls back to Open Graph for title, description and image, but twitter:card is needed to choose the large-image layout. Generating both is the safest option.

Do meta keywords help SEO?

No. Google has ignored the meta keywords tag for ranking since 2009, so this generator leaves it out.

What size should my share image be?

1200 × 630 pixels (1.91:1) works well on Facebook, LinkedIn and X. Keep important text away from the edges, and keep the file under about 5 MB.

Do these tools store the pages I check?

No. Pages and robots.txt files are fetched on demand to analyze them and are not saved. The robots.txt generator, tester and meta tag generator run entirely in your browser.

Can I check pages on localhost or my intranet?

No. For security, our server only fetches public websites. For a private page, use the 'Paste HTML' option of the meta tag checker.

Do the tools respect robots.txt?

The sitemap crawler follows your robots.txt rules and skips pages marked noindex, just like a search engine would.
