Start WhatsApp chats with a scan

WhatsApp is the main way customers contact businesses in much of the world, including South Asia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. A WhatsApp QR code opens a chat with your number, optionally with a message already typed, so customers can reach you in seconds.

How it works

The code contains an official click-to-chat link:

https://wa.me/923001234567?text=Hi!%20I%20found%20you%20via%20your%20QR%20code.

Scanning opens WhatsApp (or WhatsApp Business) with a new chat to your number and the message ready to send.

Tips

  1. Use a WhatsApp Business number for customer-facing codes. You get a business profile, quick replies and away messages.
  2. Pre-fill a specific message so you know where the customer found you (e.g. "from the flyer").
  3. Keep the message short for a less dense, easier-to-scan code.
  4. Test it with a phone that doesn't have your number saved.

Prefer calls? Use the Phone QR Code. Share full contact details with a vCard QR Code or your website with a URL QR Code.

How to use the WhatsApp QR Code

  1. Fill in the details you want to encode.
  2. Customize the colors, dot style and size.
  3. Scan the preview with your phone to test it.
  4. Download the QR code as PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Does the person need to save my number?

No. WhatsApp's click-to-chat link opens a conversation with you directly, without adding you as a contact.

Which number format should I use?

Include the country code without leading zeros, e.g. +92 300 1234567 for Pakistan or +44 7700 900123 for the UK. Spaces and + are handled automatically.

Can I change the pre-filled message later?

Not for printed codes; the message is part of the code. Generate a new code for a different message.

What if the scanner doesn't have WhatsApp?

The wa.me link opens WhatsApp's web page, which offers to download the app or use WhatsApp Web.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. They are static QR codes with the data encoded directly, so they work forever.

Can I use them commercially?

Yes. The QR codes you generate are yours to use anywhere, including in print.
