Convert WebP to JPG for compatibility

WebP is great for websites, but it's still a headache elsewhere. You save an image from a website and it won't open in your editor, won't upload to a form, or won't print. Converting WebP to JPG gives you a file that works with every app, device, printer and website.

Where WebP causes trouble

SituationProblem
Older Photoshop / Lightroom versionsCan't open WebP without plugins
Job application and government portalsAccept only JPG/PNG
Print shops and photo kiosksUsually require JPG
Older Office versionsMay not insert WebP
Some messaging and email clientsShow WebP as an attachment, not an image

Choosing quality

  • 90% (default): visually identical; recommended.
  • 95–100%: for printing or further editing.
  • 75–85%: smaller files for email or upload limits.

Transparency

Transparent WebP images (like logos) have no direct JPG equivalent. Transparent areas are filled with white by default, or black if you choose. If you need to keep transparency, keep the file as WebP, or export it as PNG from an image editor such as GIMP, Photoshop or Paint.NET.

Step-by-step

  1. Drop one or more .webp files into the upload area.
  2. Choose the quality and background color.
  3. Click Convert to JPG.
  4. Download each file, or all files as a ZIP.

Going the other way for your own website? Use JPG to WebP. Need a smaller file? Try the Image Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open a WebP file?

Some older software, including older versions of Photoshop, Windows Photo Viewer, some print shops and many upload forms, doesn't support WebP. Converting to JPG makes the image open everywhere.

Why do images I save from websites end up as WebP?

Many websites serve WebP to save bandwidth, so 'Save image as' gives you a .webp file even if the original was a JPG.

Will I lose quality?

Converting to JPG re-compresses the image. At 90% quality the difference is invisible in practice.

Does it support animated WebP?

Only the first frame is converted, because JPG can't store animation.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
