Frequently asked questions

How do I add VAT to a price?

Multiply the net price by 1 plus the VAT rate. At 20%: 100 × 1.2 = 120, of which 20 is VAT.

How do I remove VAT from a price?

Divide the VAT-inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. At 20%: 120 ÷ 1.2 = 100, so the VAT is 20. Taking 20% of 120 (24) is a common mistake; the VAT is one-sixth of a price that includes 20% VAT.

What is the VAT rate in the UK?

The standard rate is 20%. There's a reduced rate of 5% (for example on home energy and children's car seats) and a zero rate for most food, books and children's clothes.

Are the country rates up to date?

They're the standard rates in effect in 2026. Governments do change rates, and most countries also have reduced rates, so check the official tax authority for anything you file.

Are these calculators financial advice?

No. They do the math on the numbers you enter and are meant for planning and comparison. For decisions about investments, taxes or loans, check with a qualified adviser or your lender.

Is my financial information stored?

No. Everything except the currency rates runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved.

Which currency symbols can I use?

Every calculator has a currency selector (USD, EUR, GBP, INR, PKR, JPY/CNY, AED or none). Your choice is remembered on this device.
