Frequently asked questions

How do byes work?

A knockout bracket needs a power of two (4, 8, 16, 32…) players. If you have fewer, some players get a bye: they go straight to the next round. With 6 players, 2 byes make a bracket of 8.

How many games does a tournament need?

A knockout needs one fewer game than the number of players (16 players: 15 games). A round robin needs n × (n − 1) ÷ 2 games (6 players: 15 games).

Knockout or round robin?

Knockout is quick and exciting, and suits many players or limited time. Round robin is fairer, because everyone plays everyone, but takes much longer.

What if I click the wrong winner?

Just click the other player. Any later results that depended on that match are cleared automatically.

Is the randomness fair?

Yes. Team splits, draws and brackets use your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator with unbiased shuffling, so every arrangement is equally likely.

Is the test data real?

No. Names are common names combined at random, emails use the reserved example.com domains, and US and UK phone numbers come from ranges reserved for fiction. Don't use generated data to contact anyone.

Is anything I enter saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
