About the JPG to PNG

Convert JPG/JPEG photos to PNG. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for editing and graphics.

Key features

  • Batch convert many JPG/JPEG files at once
  • Lossless PNG output, no further quality loss
  • Respects EXIF orientation so photos aren't sideways
  • Strips EXIF metadata such as GPS location
  • Download individually or as a ZIP
  • Converted in your browser; images are never uploaded

Why convert JPG to PNG?

JPG (JPEG) is perfect for photos: small files with good visual quality. But every time a JPG is edited and saved, it loses a little more quality. PNG is lossless: what you save is exactly what you get back. Converting to PNG is the right move when you plan to edit an image repeatedly, need a format a specific tool requires, or want to keep crisp edges in screenshots and graphics.

When to use PNG

  • Editing workflows. Convert to PNG before cropping, annotating and re-saving many times.
  • Screenshots and UI mockups. Text and sharp lines stay crisp.
  • Uploading to tools that require PNG, like some app stores, icon generators and design tools.
  • Adding transparency later in an editor such as Photoshop, GIMP, Figma or Canva.

How the conversion works

Each image is decoded by your browser, drawn onto a canvas at its full original resolution, and encoded as PNG. Orientation from the camera's EXIF data is applied, so portrait photos stay upright. Nothing is uploaded, which makes it safe for personal photos and confidential images.

Tips

  • Keep the original JPG if file size matters; the PNG will be larger.
  • For the web, consider JPG to WebP, which produces smaller files than both.
  • Reduce size afterwards with the Image Compressor.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG is lossless, so it won't add further loss, but it can't restore detail that JPG compression already removed. The PNG will look identical to the JPG.

Why is my PNG larger than the JPG?

PNG uses lossless compression, which is much less efficient for photographs than JPG's lossy compression. PNGs of photos are often 3–10× larger.

Does the PNG have a transparent background?

JPG has no transparency, so the PNG keeps the original background. To remove a background you need a dedicated background-removal tool.

Is EXIF data kept?

No. Converting through the browser canvas drops metadata like camera model and GPS location, which is good for privacy when sharing images.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
