Tips for great results

  1. Crop tightly around the subject first with Crop Image.
  2. Boost contrast in the Photo Editor before converting.
  3. Narrower is clearer: 60–100 characters suits most code comments and chats.
  4. Always paste into a monospace font (code blocks), or the shapes will break.

Example uses

  • A logo banner at the top of a README or source file.
  • A welcome screen for a command-line tool.
  • Fun signatures in plain-text emails or forums.

Make fancy Unicode text, add text to an image, or create upside down text.

Frequently asked questions

What images work best?

High-contrast images with clear shapes: logos, silhouettes, icons and portraits with plain backgrounds. Busy photos turn into noisy text.

Why does my ASCII art look stretched?

Text characters are about twice as tall as they are wide, which the converter compensates for. If it still looks off, the font where you paste it may have unusual proportions; use a monospace font.

Where can I use ASCII art?

Code comments, README files, terminal welcome messages, emails in plain text, chat apps that support monospace (code blocks), and social bios.

When should I use Invert?

When the art will be shown as light text on a dark background, such as a terminal or dark-mode code editor.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
