Strong Password Generator – Secure & Random

Generate strong, random passwords with a chosen length, symbols and numbers. Uses cryptographically secure randomness. Nothing is stored.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded

About the Password Generator

Create strong, random passwords using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator. Choose the length and character sets, and see the password's strength at a glance.

Key features

  • Cryptographically secure randomness (Web Crypto API)
  • Length from 4 to 128 characters
  • Uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols
  • Option to exclude look-alike characters (O/0, l/1/I)
  • Entropy estimate and strength meter
  • Generate up to 50 passwords at once; nothing is stored

Generate strong, random passwords

Weak and reused passwords are behind most account takeovers. A strong password is long, random and unique for every site. This generator creates passwords using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, the same source used for encryption keys, and shows you exactly how strong each one is.

How strong is strong?

Entropy depends on length and the size of the character set:

LengthLowercase only (26)Letters + digits (62)All sets (~90)
838 bits ❌48 bits ⚠️52 bits ⚠️
1256 bits ⚠️71 bits ✅78 bits ✅
1675 bits ✅95 bits ✅✅104 bits ✅✅
2094 bits ✅✅119 bits ✅✅130 bits ✅✅

Every additional bit doubles the guesses an attacker needs. Length matters most: a 16-character lowercase password beats an 8-character "complex" one.

Password best practices

  1. Use a unique password for every account. One breach shouldn't unlock everything.
  2. Use a password manager such as Bitwarden, 1Password, KeePass or the one built into your browser.
  3. Turn on two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible.
  4. Don't rotate passwords on a schedule; change them when there's a reason, such as a breach. This is current NIST guidance (SP 800-63B).
  5. Check for breaches at haveibeenpwned.com.

When to exclude look-alike characters

Enable Exclude look-alikes when a password will be read or typed by a person, such as a Wi-Fi password printed for guests or a temporary password read over the phone. It removes characters like O/0 and l/1/I that are easy to confuse.

Need a memorable passphrase?

For passwords you must remember, a passphrase of 4–6 random words (e.g. comet-lantern-brave-orchard) is strong and easier to type. Try the Random Word Generator.

Compute hashes with the NTLM Hash Generator, or share Wi-Fi credentials with a WiFi QR Code.

How to use the Password Generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the input box.
  2. Choose the options you want.
  3. The result updates instantly as you type.
  4. Copy the output or download it as a .txt file.

Frequently asked questions

Are these passwords really random?

Yes. They use crypto.getRandomValues, the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator, with rejection sampling to avoid statistical bias.

Is the password sent to your server?

No. Passwords are generated in your browser and never transmitted or stored. Close the tab and they're gone.

How long should my password be?

At least 12–16 characters for accounts, 20+ for password-manager master passwords and Wi-Fi networks. Length adds more strength than complexity.

What does 'bits of entropy' mean?

It measures how hard a password is to guess: each extra bit doubles the number of possibilities. Above 80 bits is considered very strong against offline attacks.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All text tools run locally in your browser.

Do these tools support Unicode?

Yes. They handle Unicode text, including emoji and accented characters.
