Shrink images without visible quality loss

Modern phone cameras produce photos of 3–10 MB, far bigger than needed for websites, email, chat or document uploads. Oversized images slow down pages, fill storage and get rejected by upload limits. The Image Compressor reduces file size dramatically while keeping images looking the same.

Two ways to make images smaller

  1. Compression (quality): removes detail the eye can't easily see. Controlled by the Quality % setting.
  2. Resizing (dimensions): a 4000 px photo displayed at 1200 px wastes ~90% of its pixels. Set Max width/height to downscale.

Combining both gives the biggest savings.

Why image size matters for SEO

  • Core Web Vitals: images are usually the Largest Contentful Paint element; smaller files improve LCP.
  • Mobile users on slow connections abandon slow pages.
  • Google PageSpeed Insights flags oversized and unoptimized images.
  • Hosting and CDN costs drop with smaller files.

How it works

Compression runs in a Web Worker, a background thread in your browser, so the page stays responsive even with large batches. Photos are never uploaded. If compression wouldn't make a file smaller (for example, an already-optimized image) and the format isn't changing, the original is returned unchanged.

Convert to a modern format with JPG to WebP, convert iPhone photos with HEIC to JPG, or reduce PDF size by converting images before using JPG to PDF.

How to use the Image Compressor

  1. Drag and drop your files into the upload area, or click Choose files.
  2. Set any options, such as quality, page size or page ranges.
  3. Click the convert button. Processing happens right in your browser.
  4. Download each result individually, or all of them as a ZIP.

Frequently asked questions

How much can I reduce image size?

Typically 40–80% for photos from phones and cameras. Combining compression with resizing (e.g. a 1920 px maximum width) often reduces files by over 90%.

Will people notice the quality loss?

At 70–80% quality, compressed photos look virtually identical at normal viewing sizes. Use 85%+ for images that will be printed or zoomed.

Why didn't my PNG get much smaller?

PNG is lossless, so quality settings have limited effect. For photographic PNGs, choose JPG or WebP as the output format, or reduce the maximum dimensions.

What's the best maximum width for websites?

1920 px for full-width hero images, 1200 px for blog images, and 800 px or less for thumbnails and product grids.

Are my images uploaded?

Most image tools run in your browser. Only Word→JPG, JPG→Word and JPG→HEIC send the file to our server, where it is processed and deleted right away.

Can I convert several images at once?

Yes. Drop multiple files and download them one by one or as a ZIP.

Will converting reduce quality?

Lossless formats like PNG keep full quality. For JPG and WebP you can pick the quality level yourself.
