A QR code that calls you

A phone QR code lets people call you without typing your number: they scan, confirm, and the call starts. It removes friction from "call us now", which makes it ideal for printed ads, vehicles, signs and anywhere people would otherwise have to memorize or type digits.

How it works

The code contains a tel: link with your number in international format:

tel:+442079460958

Spaces, dashes and brackets you type are removed automatically.

Where phone QR codes work well

  • Service vans and trucks: plumbers, electricians, cleaners and movers.
  • "For sale" and "to let" signs.
  • Restaurant takeaway menus and flyers.
  • Emergency and maintenance contacts on equipment and in buildings.
  • Lost-and-found tags on luggage, keys and pet collars.
  • Customer support on product packaging and manuals.

Best practices

  1. Use the international format (+ and country code).
  2. Print the number in text too, for people who'd rather dial.
  3. Make the call-to-action clear: "Scan to call".
  4. Size it for the distance. A van-side code read from a few metres needs to be 20–30 cm wide.
  5. Test the code on iPhone and Android before printing.

Offer a chat instead with the WhatsApp QR Code, or share all your details with a vCard QR Code.

How to use the Phone QR Code

  1. Fill in the details you want to encode.
  2. Customize the colors, dot style and size.
  3. Scan the preview with your phone to test it.
  4. Download the QR code as PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Does scanning call the number immediately?

No. The phone shows the number and asks the user to confirm before dialing.

Should I include the country code?

Yes, use the + international format (e.g. +44 20 7946 0958). It works from any country and on any phone.

Can it send an SMS instead?

This generator creates call (tel:) codes. For messaging, the WhatsApp QR code is a popular alternative.

Will it work on landlines?

The QR code is scanned by a smartphone, which then calls whatever number you encode: mobile or landline.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. They are static QR codes with the data encoded directly, so they work forever.

Can I use them commercially?

Yes. The QR codes you generate are yours to use anywhere, including in print.
