Decode binary messages

A string of ones and zeros in a puzzle, homework assignment or greeting card? Binary to String turns it into words instantly.

Example

01001000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111

decodes to Hello.

Decoding a byte yourself

Take 01001000 and add the values of the positions holding a 1:

1286432168421
01001000

64 + 8 = 72, the code for H.

Frequently asked questions

What format should I paste?

Groups of 8 bits, with or without spaces: '01001000 01101001' or '0100100001101001'.

Why does it say the bits must be a multiple of 8?

A digit is missing or extra. If bytes were written with 7 digits, add a leading 0 to each one.

Can it read 7-bit ASCII?

Yes, after padding each group to 8 digits with a leading zero.

The result is gibberish. Why?

The binary may represent numbers or a file rather than text.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All text tools run locally in your browser.

Do these tools support Unicode?

Yes. They handle Unicode text, including emoji and accented characters.
