About the Remove Accents
Strip accents and diacritical marks, so é becomes e and ñ becomes n. Useful for URL slugs, file names and search normalization.
Key features
- Strips accents and diacritics (é → e, ñ → n, ü → u)
- Handles special letters: ß → ss, æ → ae, ø → o, ł → l
- Keeps letter case, spacing and punctuation
- Unicode normalization (NFD) under the hood
- Works for French, Spanish, German, Polish, Vietnamese and more
- Instant and private
Remove accents from any text
Accented characters are perfect for reading but troublesome for URLs, file names, usernames, database keys and search. Some systems reject them, others encode them into unreadable %C3%A9 sequences, and searches for "cafe" miss "café". Remove Accents converts text to plain letters while keeping everything else intact.
Examples
| Original | Without accents |
|---|---|
| Crème brûlée | Creme brulee |
| jalapeño | jalapeno |
| naïve café | naive cafe |
| Zoë | Zoe |
| Straße | Strasse |
| Łódź | Lodz |
| Ærøskøbing | AEroskobing |
Common uses
- URL slugs: "Résumé tips" →
resume-tips(combine with Case Converter → kebab-case). - File names that sync across Windows, macOS, Linux and cloud storage.
- Usernames and email aliases limited to ASCII.
- Search and matching: normalize names and addresses so "José" matches "Jose".
- Legacy systems and CSV imports that can't handle Unicode.
How it works
- Text is normalized to NFD, which separates base letters from their accent marks.
- All combining marks (Unicode category M) are removed.
- Letters that aren't base + accent (ß, æ, ø, ł) are replaced with their conventional ASCII spellings.
