Frequently asked questions

What is the break-even point?

The level of sales where total revenue equals total costs, so you make neither a profit nor a loss. Every sale after that adds profit.

How do you calculate break-even units?

Break-even units = Fixed costs ÷ (Price per unit − Variable cost per unit). With fixed costs of 10,000, a price of 30 and variable costs of 12, that's 10,000 ÷ 18 = 556 units (rounded up).

What is the contribution margin?

The amount each sale contributes toward fixed costs and profit: price minus variable cost per unit. As a percentage of price, it's the contribution margin ratio.

How can I lower my break-even point?

Raise prices, reduce variable costs (better supplier terms, cheaper shipping) or cut fixed costs. Small changes to the contribution margin often have the biggest effect.

Are these calculators financial advice?

No. They do the math on the numbers you enter and are meant for planning and comparison. For decisions about investments, taxes or loans, check with a qualified adviser or your lender.

Is my financial information stored?

No. Everything except the currency rates runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved.

Which currency symbols can I use?

Every calculator has a currency selector (USD, EUR, GBP, INR, PKR, JPY/CNY, AED or none). Your choice is remembered on this device.
