A fixed deposit (FD) or term deposit pays a guaranteed rate for a fixed period. Enter the amount, rate and tenure to see what you'll get back at maturity.

FD formula

Maturity = P × (1 + r ÷ n)^(n × t)

Frequently asked questions

How is FD maturity calculated?

For a cumulative FD: Maturity = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t), where P is the deposit, r the annual rate, n the number of compounding periods per year and t the tenure in years. Most Indian banks compound quarterly.

What is the effective annual yield?

The yearly return after compounding. At 7% compounded quarterly, the effective yield is about 7.19%, a little higher than the quoted rate.

Is FD interest taxable?

In most countries, yes. In India, FD interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab rate, and banks deduct TDS when interest exceeds the threshold. The figures here are before tax.

What about short deposits?

Many banks pay simple interest on deposits shorter than six months. For those, the maturity amount may be slightly lower than shown here.

Are these calculators financial advice?

No. They do the math on the numbers you enter and are meant for planning and comparison. For decisions about investments, taxes or loans, check with a qualified adviser or your lender.

Is my financial information stored?

No. Everything except the currency rates runs in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent to a server or saved.

Which currency symbols can I use?

Every calculator has a currency selector (USD, EUR, GBP, INR, PKR, JPY/CNY, AED or none). Your choice is remembered on this device.
