About the Hash Generator

Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2, SHA-3, CRC32 and xxHash64 hashes of your text at once. Everything is computed locally, so your text never leaves your device.

Key features

  • MD5, SHA-1, SHA-224, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512
  • SHA3-256, SHA3-512, CRC32 and xxHash64
  • All algorithms at once, or one per line
  • Lowercase or uppercase hex output
  • UTF-8 input, exactly as typed
  • Computed locally with WebAssembly

Calculate checksums and hashes of text

Hashes verify that data hasn't changed, identify duplicate content, build cache keys and sign API requests. Enter text to compute its hash with every major algorithm at once.

Example

The text The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog hashes to:

SHA-12fd4e1c67a2d28fced849ee1bb76e7391b93eb12

CRC32414fa339

Add a single period at the end and every hash changes completely. This is the "avalanche effect".

Getting matching results

  1. Check for a trailing new line. Command-line tools like echo add one; use echo -n or printf.
  2. Match the line endings if you're hashing multi-line text copied from Windows.
  3. Hash each line separately with the per-line option for lists of values.

Encode text as Base64 with the Base64 Encoder, or create unique IDs with the UUID Generator.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the input box.
  2. Choose the options you want.
  3. The result updates instantly as you type.
  4. Copy the output or download it as a .txt file.

Frequently asked questions

What is a hash?

A fixed-length fingerprint of data. The same input always gives the same hash, and changing even one character produces a completely different result. Hashes are one-way: you can't recover the text from them.

Which algorithm should I use?

SHA-256 is the safe default for integrity checks and signatures. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for non-security checksums but are broken for security purposes. CRC32 and xxHash are very fast but only detect accidental changes.

Why doesn't my hash match another tool?

Usually because of invisible differences: a trailing space or new line, Windows (CRLF) vs Unix (LF) line endings, or a different text encoding. This tool hashes the exact UTF-8 bytes you enter.

Should I store passwords as SHA-256?

No. Fast hashes can be brute-forced quickly. Password storage needs a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, bcrypt or scrypt.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All text tools run locally in your browser.

Do these tools support Unicode?

Yes. They handle Unicode text, including emoji and accented characters.
