UUID Generator – Random v4 & v7 UUIDs (GUID)

Generate random UUID v4 or time-ordered v7 UUIDs (GUIDs) in bulk. Uppercase, no hyphens or braces. Inspect any UUID's version and time.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded

About the UUID Generator

Generate up to 1,000 UUIDs (also called GUIDs) at once using your browser's secure random generator. Choose version 4 or time-ordered version 7, and inspect any UUID's version and timestamp.

Key features

  • Version 4 (random) and version 7 (time-ordered) UUIDs
  • Generate 1 to 1,000 at once
  • Uppercase, no hyphens and {braces} formats
  • Cryptographically secure randomness from your browser
  • Inspect any UUID's version, variant and timestamp
  • Copy or download as a text file

Generate unique IDs instantly

UUIDs (universally unique identifiers) are 128-bit IDs that can be created anywhere without coordination, which makes them ideal for database keys, API request IDs, file names, test data and distributed systems.

UUID format

018f3c2e-7b1a-7c4d-9e2f-5a6b7c8d9e0f
└──────┘ └──┘ └──┘ └──┘ └──────────┘
   8 4 4 4 12 hex digits
               ↑ ↑
          version variant

The first digit of the third group is the version (4 or 7), and the first digit of the fourth group is the variant (8, 9, a or b for standard UUIDs).

This generator makes v7 IDs monotonic: IDs created in the same millisecond still sort in the order they were generated.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a UUID and a GUID?

Nothing, in practice. GUID (globally unique identifier) is Microsoft's name for the same 128-bit identifier standardized as a UUID in RFC 9562 (formerly RFC 4122).

Should I use UUID v4 or v7?

Use v7 for database primary keys: it starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order and index efficiently. Use v4 when you don't want the ID to reveal when it was created.

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In theory, but practically never. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits; you'd need to generate about 2.7 quintillion of them for a 50% chance of a single collision.

Are these UUIDs generated on your server?

No. They're created in your browser with crypto.randomUUID() and crypto.getRandomValues(), so they're never sent or stored anywhere.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All text tools run locally in your browser.

Do these tools support Unicode?

Yes. They handle Unicode text, including emoji and accented characters.
