The colons in the separator row set alignment: :--- left, :---: center, ---: right.

Code blocks

Wrap code in three backticks and add a language name. The language becomes a CSS class (language-js) that syntax highlighters like Prism or highlight.js recognize.

Common uses

  • Blog posts and docs written in Markdown, published to an HTML CMS.
  • Email newsletters drafted in Markdown.
  • README previews before pushing to GitHub.

Go the other way with HTML to Text, escape snippets with the HTML Entity Encoder, or count words with the Word Counter.

Frequently asked questions

Which Markdown features are supported?

Headings, emphasis, links, images, lists, blockquotes, code, horizontal rules, and with GFM on, tables, strikethrough (~~text~~), task lists and automatic links.

Why don't my single line breaks show up?

In standard Markdown, a single new line inside a paragraph is treated as a space. Leave a blank line between paragraphs, end a line with two spaces, or tick 'Line breaks as <br>' (GitHub comment style).

Is the HTML sanitized?

Raw HTML in your Markdown is passed through, as Markdown allows. The preview runs in a fully sandboxed frame, but if you publish Markdown from untrusted users, sanitize the output on your server.

Does it add CSS styling?

No. The output is clean semantic HTML, so it picks up your site's own styles. Tick 'Full HTML document' to get a complete page skeleton.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. All text tools run locally in your browser.

Do these tools support Unicode?

Yes. They handle Unicode text, including emoji and accented characters.
