See and edit PDF document properties
Every PDF can store hidden properties: who wrote it, its title, subject, keywords and the software that created it. Check what a PDF says about itself, give it a proper title for the web, or wipe the information before sharing.
Metadata fields
| Field | Example | Shown where |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Annual Report 2026 | Browser tabs, search results, document properties |
| Author | Jane Doe | Document properties |
| Subject | Financial results | Document properties |
| Keywords | finance, annual, report | Search and document management systems |
| Creator | Microsoft Word | The app used to create the original |
| Producer | macOS Quartz PDFContext | The software that made the PDF |
Publishing PDFs online
- Set a clear, descriptive Title (it often becomes the search result title).
- Add the Author or organization name.
- Use a readable file name too, such as
annual-report-2026.pdf.
Before sharing externally
Check the Author and Creator fields: they may contain personal names, usernames or internal software details. Use Remove all metadata for a clean copy.
