About the WiFi QR Code

Let guests join your WiFi by scanning a QR code instead of typing the password. Print it for your home, office or café.

Key features

  • Guests join your Wi-Fi by scanning, with no typing
  • WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP and open networks
  • Hidden network support
  • Special characters in SSID and password escaped correctly
  • Generated in your browser; your password isn't uploaded
  • Printable PNG and SVG

Share your Wi-Fi without spelling out the password

"What's the Wi-Fi password?" Then comes reading out a long, random string, mistyping it, and trying again. A Wi-Fi QR code fixes that: guests point their camera at it and their phone joins your network automatically.

How it works

The code stores your network details in the standard Wi-Fi format understood by iOS and Android:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyHomeWiFi;P:correct-horse-battery;;
FieldMeaning
TSecurity type: WPA, WEP or nopass
SNetwork name (SSID)
PPassword
H:trueHidden network (if enabled)

Special characters such as ;, ,, : and " in your SSID or password are escaped automatically, which is a common reason other generators produce codes that don't connect.

Where to put it

  • Homes: on the fridge or in the guest room.
  • Cafés, restaurants and bars: table cards and counters.
  • Hotels and Airbnbs: welcome cards and room info.
  • Offices: meeting rooms and reception, ideally on a guest network.
  • Events and co-working spaces.

Security tips

  1. Use a guest network for visitors so they can't reach your personal devices.
  2. Remember that the code reveals the password to anyone who scans or photographs it.
  3. Change the guest password periodically and print a new code.
  4. Use WPA2 or WPA3, never WEP, if your router supports it.

Create a strong Wi-Fi password first with the Password Generator (enable Exclude look-alikes so guests can still type it if needed).

How to use the WiFi QR Code

  1. Fill in the details you want to encode.
  2. Customize the colors, dot style and size.
  3. Scan the preview with your phone to test it.
  4. Download the QR code as PNG or SVG.

Frequently asked questions

Which phones support Wi-Fi QR codes?

iPhones with iOS 11 or later and Android 10 or later can join Wi-Fi straight from the camera app or quick-settings QR scanner. Older Android phones may need a QR scanner app.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent to your server?

No. The code is generated in your browser. Keep in mind that anyone who scans or photographs the printed code can read the password, so only display it where you'd share the password anyway.

Which security type should I choose?

WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for virtually all modern routers. Use WEP only for very old equipment, and None for open networks without a password.

What if I change my Wi-Fi password?

Generate and print a new code. The old one will stop working because the password is stored in the code.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. They are static QR codes with the data encoded directly, so they work forever.

Can I use them commercially?

Yes. The QR codes you generate are yours to use anywhere, including in print.
