Frequently asked questions

Does holding the spacebar count?

No. Holding a key makes it auto-repeat, which would be unfair, so only separate presses are counted.

What's a good spacebar score?

Around 6–8 presses per second is typical. Above 10 per second is very fast.

Can I test my spacebar for faults?

Yes. If presses don't register, or one press counts twice, the spacebar's switch or stabilizer may need cleaning. The Keyboard Tester shows every key in more detail.

Where is my best score stored?

In your browser on this device, separately for each duration.

Are my camera and microphone recorded?

No. Audio and video are processed live in your browser and never uploaded. The only recording is the optional 5-second mic playback, which stays on your device and disappears when you leave the page.

Why does my browser ask for permission?

Browsers require your permission before any site can use your camera or microphone. You can revoke it at any time from the icon in the address bar.

Do these tests work on phones?

Most do: mic, webcam, speaker, screen, reaction time and click tests work on phones and tablets. The keyboard, mouse and gamepad testers need those devices connected.
