Unix Timestamp Converter – Epoch to Date & Back

Convert Unix timestamps (epoch seconds or milliseconds) to human-readable dates and dates to timestamps. Live current epoch time, UTC and local.

  • Free, no sign-up
  • Runs in your browser, nothing uploaded

About the Unix Timestamp Converter

Convert Unix epoch timestamps to dates in your local time zone and UTC, or turn a date into a timestamp. Seconds, milliseconds, microseconds and nanoseconds are detected automatically.

Key features

  • Live current Unix time in seconds and milliseconds
  • Timestamp to date in your time zone and UTC
  • Date to timestamp, from local time or UTC
  • Auto-detects seconds, milliseconds, microseconds and nanoseconds
  • ISO 8601, RFC 2822 and relative time
  • One-click copy for every value

Convert epoch time to dates and back

Developers meet Unix timestamps everywhere: logs, databases, APIs, JWT tokens and cookies. Paste a timestamp to see the date in your local time zone and UTC, or pick a date to get its timestamp.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds since 00:00:00 UTC on 1 January 1970 (the Unix epoch), not counting leap seconds. It's the same everywhere in the world at the same moment, which makes it ideal for storing times in software.

Seconds or milliseconds?

Unix tools, PHP, Python's time.time() and most databases use seconds (10 digits today). JavaScript's Date.now(), Java and many APIs use milliseconds (13 digits). The converter detects which one you entered.

What is the year 2038 problem?

Systems storing timestamps as signed 32-bit integers overflow on 19 January 2038 at 03:14:07 UTC (2,147,483,647 seconds). Modern systems use 64-bit values, which last for billions of years.

Does a timestamp have a time zone?

No. A timestamp is always UTC-based. Time zones only matter when you display it as a local date and time.

Are the random results fair?

Yes. The wheel, random number generator, coin flip and dice use your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with unbiased sampling, so every outcome is equally likely.

Do these tools work offline or on my phone?

They run entirely in your browser and work on phones, tablets and computers. Once a page has loaded, most tools keep working without a connection.

Is anything I type saved on your servers?

No. The notepad saves notes only in your own browser's local storage, and nothing else you enter is stored.
