Inclusive vs exclusive counting

  • Exclusive (default): Monday to Friday = 4 days. Use this for "days until" and durations between events.
  • Inclusive: Monday to Friday = 5 days. Use this for hotel stays, leave requests and event lengths where both days count.

Frequently asked questions

Does the count include the start and end dates?

By default, it counts the days from the start date to the end date, as in 'how many days until'. Tick 'include end date' to count both days, as in 'how many days does the event last'.

How many days are there between 1 January and 31 December?

364 days (365 if you include the end date in a non-leap year).

Why are months shown as approximate?

Months vary from 28 to 31 days. The 'years, months, days' breakdown uses real calendar months; the decimal figure uses the average month of 30.44 days.

Are leap years handled?

Yes. The calculation uses real calendar dates, so 29 February is counted in leap years.

Are these calculators accurate?

They use standard, published formulas (for example the amortization formula for loans, Mifflin-St Jeor for calories and the U.S. Navy method for body fat) and are tested against known reference values. Results are estimates for planning, not professional advice.

Is my data stored?

No. All calculations run in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server.
