About the JSON to Text

Turn JSON into indented plain text, with one key: value pair per line, so it's easy to read or paste into an email or report.

Key features

  • Readable key: value lines without brackets or quotes
  • Indentation shows nesting
  • Arrays rendered as bullet-style lists
  • Null values shown as (empty)
  • Ideal for emails, tickets and reports
  • Copy or download as .txt

Make JSON readable for everyone

Not everyone reads JSON comfortably. Braces, brackets and quotes get in the way when you're pasting order details into a support ticket, summarizing an API response in an email, or adding data to a report. JSON to Text turns structured data into simple, indented key: value lines that anyone can understand.

Example

{
  "order": 1001,
  "customer": { "name": "Ada Lovelace", "email": "ada@example.com" },
  "items": [ { "sku": "A1", "qty": 2 } ],
  "coupon": null
}
order: 1001
customer:
  name: Ada Lovelace
  email: ada@example.com
items:
  - [1]
    sku: A1
    qty: 2
coupon: (empty)

Where plain-text JSON helps

  • Customer support. Paste order or account details into tickets and replies.
  • Status reports. Summarize API or monitoring data for non-technical readers.
  • Chat messages. Slack and Teams messages are easier to read without JSON syntax.
  • Printing. Clean text prints better than raw JSON.
  • Accessibility. Screen readers handle plain text more gracefully than punctuation-heavy JSON.

Need YAML, which looks similar but is machine-readable? Use JSON to YAML. For a table, use JSON to HTML or JSON to CSV.

How to use the JSON to Text

  1. Paste your data into the input box, upload a file, or click Sample to try it out.
  2. Adjust the options above the editor if you need to (indentation, delimiter, and so on).
  3. The Text appears instantly in the output panel. Any errors are shown with their line and column.
  4. Click Copy to copy the result, or Download to save it as a file.

Frequently asked questions

Can the plain text be converted back to JSON?

Not reliably. Plain text drops quotes and type information (for example, whether 42 was a number or a string). Keep the original JSON if you need to restore it.

How are arrays shown?

Each item appears on its own line starting with a dash. Arrays of objects are numbered, e.g. - [1], - [2], with their fields indented underneath.

What's the difference between this and JSON to String?

JSON to String produces an escaped string literal for code. JSON to Text produces human-friendly prose-like text for reading.

Will it handle large documents?

Yes, but very large outputs become long to read. Use the JSON Cleaner first to drop empty values.

Is my JSON uploaded to a server?

No. All JSON tools run entirely in your browser, so your data never leaves your device.

Is there a size limit?

There is no fixed limit. Files of several megabytes work fine; very large files depend on your device's memory.

Do I need an account?

No. Every JSON tool is free and works without signing up.
