Frequently asked questions

What is a user agent?

A text string your browser sends with every request, describing the browser, its version and the operating system. Websites and analytics tools use it to adapt content and count visitors.

Why does my user agent say Windows 10 when I have Windows 11?

Chrome and Edge freeze parts of the user agent for privacy, so Windows 11 still reports 'Windows NT 10.0'. Where your browser supports Client Hints, this tool shows the real version too.

Why do all browsers say 'Mozilla/5.0'?

For historical compatibility. Early websites checked for 'Mozilla' (Netscape), so other browsers copied it to receive the same content, and it stuck.

Can a user agent be faked?

Yes. Browsers, extensions and bots can send any user agent string, so it shouldn't be used for security decisions.

Is my code uploaded anywhere?

No. Every developer tool runs entirely in your browser, so source code, configuration files and passwords never leave your device.

Which formatter do you use?

HTML, CSS and JavaScript are formatted with Prettier, the most widely used code formatter, so the output matches what most projects use. SQL uses sql-formatter, and minification uses Terser and CSSO.

Is there a size limit?

There's no fixed limit. Very large files (several megabytes) can take a few seconds, depending on your device.
