Frequently asked questions

What is the quadratic formula?

For ax² + bx + c = 0, x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) ÷ 2a. It works for every quadratic equation, including ones that can't be factorised.

What does the discriminant tell me?

D = b² − 4ac. If D > 0 there are two different real roots, if D = 0 there's one repeated root, and if D < 0 the roots are a pair of complex numbers.

What if a = 0?

Then the equation isn't quadratic but linear (bx + c = 0), and the solver gives its single solution, x = −c ÷ b.

What is the vertex?

The turning point of the parabola, at x = −b ÷ 2a. It's the minimum when a is positive and the maximum when a is negative.

Are these student tools free?

Yes, every tool is free with no sign-up or app to install, and they work on phones as well as computers.

Is my data saved?

Your courses, marks, timer settings and reference list are saved only in your own browser, so you can come back and update them. Nothing is sent to our servers.

Which grading systems are supported?

The GPA calculator supports the US 4.0 and 4.3 scales, the Pakistani HEC-style 4.0 scale and the Indian 10-point scale. The CGPA to percentage converter includes the CBSE and VTU formulas and the common 10-point and 4.0-scale conversions.

Will my university use exactly the same formula?

Not always. Grading and conversion rules differ between universities and boards, so check your student handbook for official results.
