Frequently asked questions

The site works here but not for me. Why?

The problem is between you and the site: your browser cache, your Wi-Fi or router, your internet provider's DNS, a VPN or ad blocker, or the site being blocked in your country or network. Try the tips shown under the result.

What does a 503 or 502 error mean?

503 Service Unavailable usually means the site is overloaded or down for maintenance. 502 Bad Gateway means a server in front of the site couldn't reach the main server. Both are problems on the website's side.

Where is the check run from?

From our own server, in one location. A site might work there but be blocked or down in another region, so if a site is down only in your country, it may be a regional block or outage.

Can I check if WhatsApp, Instagram or YouTube is down?

Yes, enter the website address, such as youtube.com. Note that apps sometimes fail while their website still loads, because they use different servers.

Are these network tools free?

Yes. All tools are free with no sign-up. To keep them fast for everyone, each visitor can run about 30 checks of each kind every five minutes.

Do you store the domains I check?

No. Lookups are run on demand and the results aren't saved. Your own IP address isn't stored either.

Where do the results come from?

DNS lookups query public resolvers (Cloudflare, Google and Quad9), WHOIS data comes from each registry's official RDAP or WHOIS service, and SSL and HTTP checks connect to the website directly from our server.

Can I check sites on my local network?

No. For security, our server only connects to public internet addresses, so localhost, 192.168.x.x and other private addresses are refused. The subnet calculator works with any address because it runs in your browser.
