About the Memory Game

A classic card-matching memory game: flip two cards at a time and remember where each picture is until every pair is found. Choose from 12 to 36 cards.

Key features

  • 12, 16, 20 or 36 cards
  • Counts moves and time
  • Fewest moves saved for each size
  • Colourful pictures, easy for children
  • Works with touch and mouse
  • New layout every game

How to remember the cards

  1. Say what you see. Naming each picture quietly ("apple, top left") helps you remember it.
  2. Work in an order. Turn over unknown cards row by row instead of at random.
  3. Use the second card well. If your first card is new, use the second flip to uncover another unknown card, not one you've already seen.
  4. Picture the grid as small areas, like the corners and the middle.

Frequently asked questions

How do I play?

Click a card to turn it over, then click another. If the two pictures match, they stay face up. If not, they turn back over after a moment. Find all the pairs in as few moves as possible.

What counts as a move?

Turning over two cards is one move. The best possible score equals the number of pairs, which only happens if you're lucky with every first card.

What's a good score?

For 16 cards (8 pairs), finishing in 12 to 16 moves is very good. Memory improves quickly with practice, so try to beat your best.

Is it good for children?

Yes. Matching games are a classic way for children to practise memory, attention and patience. Start with 12 cards.

Are the games free?

Yes, all games are completely free, with no sign-up, download or in-game purchases.

Do the games work on phones?

Yes. Every game works with touch as well as a mouse and keyboard, and the boards resize to fit your screen.

Where are my best scores saved?

In your browser on this device. They're never sent to our servers, and clearing your browser data resets them.

What are the daily puzzles?

Sudoku and Word Scramble have a puzzle of the day that is the same for everyone and changes at midnight in your time zone, so you can compare results with friends.
