Frequently asked questions

Which barcode type should I use?

Code 128 for general labels, inventory and shipping (it handles letters and numbers). EAN-13 or UPC-A for retail products sold in shops. Code 39 for ID cards and some industrial systems. ITF-14 for outer cartons.

Can I make an EAN barcode for my product?

You can create the image here, but retail EAN and UPC numbers must be issued to your company by GS1 (or your country's GS1 office). Shops and marketplaces check that numbers are registered.

What is a check digit?

The last digit of an EAN or UPC number, calculated from the others so scanners can detect misreads. Enter 12 digits for EAN-13 and the 13th is added automatically.

PNG or SVG?

SVG scales to any size without blurring, so it's best for printing and design software. PNG is easiest for documents and websites.

Is the randomness fair?

Yes. Team splits, draws and brackets use your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator with unbiased shuffling, so every arrangement is equally likely.

Is the test data real?

No. Names are common names combined at random, emails use the reserved example.com domains, and US and UK phone numbers come from ranges reserved for fiction. Don't use generated data to contact anyone.

Is anything I enter saved?

No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
